When a gas is heated, its temperature increases. Explain this phenomenon based on kinetic theory of gases.

When the gas is heated, the molecules of the gas acquire the energy and their r.m.s. velocity increases.

According to kinetic theory of gases, the r.m.s. velocity of gas is Vms= √3RT /M

i.e. Vrms ∞ √T

Thus increase in Vrms, increases the temperature of gas.
